Hard

Solution

(a) Biosphere Reserves are vast swathes of land set aside for the protection of wildlife, plant and animal resources, and indigenous cultures' traditional ways of life. On the other side, wildlife sanctuaries, such as reserve forests, provide protection and optimum living conditions for wild animals. Wildlife sanctuaries allow residents to graze their cattle, collect medicinal plants and gather firewood, all of which are prohibited in the biosphere reserve. (b) In a zoo, animals live in artificial settings created by the management of the zoo. As a result, they are not as comfortable as they would be if they were living in a wildlife sanctuary as reserve forests, which provide protection and optimum living conditions for wild animals in their natural habitat. (c) Species of animals whose numbers are diminishing to a level that they might face extinction are known as endangered animals while species of animals that are no longer found on our planet are called extinct species. (d) Some animals and plants typically belong to a particular area. The plants found in a particular area are termed flora and animals found in a particular area are termed fauna of that area.
