Question

Discuss the effects of deforestation on the following. (a) Wild animals (b) Environment (c) Villages (Rural areas) (d) Cities (Urban areas) (e) Earth (f) The next generation.
Hard

Solution

(a) Deforestation will lead to the loss of habitat of wild animals leading to them falling prey to their various predator. They can also be killed by the poachers and people living nearby. Eventually, the population of the wild animals will decrease leading to a loss in biodiversity. (b) Deforestation raises the earth's temperature and pollution levels. Carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere rise as a result. Carbon dioxide is required for photosynthesis in plants. With fewer trees, less carbon dioxide is used up, resulting in an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide traps the heat rays reflected by the planet, resulting in global warming. (c)Forests are usually the lifeblood of villages. As a result of deforestation, a variety of wild animals have fled to surrounding villages, posing a threat to them. Villagers will also be deprived of fruits, fuel, and timber as a result of deforestation. (d) Natural disasters such as floods and excessive rainfall can be exacerbated by deforestation. It may also contribute to global warming by increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere as a result of vehicle and industrial pollution. Deforestation as a result of unplanned urbanisation has a variety of environmental consequences. Endangered species, reduced atmospheric water, and higher greenhouse gas emissions are only a few of these consequences. It also exacerbates the consequences of a changing climate that is unpredictable. (e) Because increased carbon dioxide retains the heat rays reflected by the planet, deforestation will result in global warming. The water cycle is disrupted by global warming, and rainfall may be reduced causing droughts. Soil qualities alter as a result of deforestation. Plantation and vegetation have an impact on the physical qualities of soil. Soil erosion is exacerbated by the loss of trees. The lower, hard, and rocky layers are seen when the top layer of soil is removed. The humus content of this soil is lower, and it is also less fertile. Deserts gradually replace fertile land. This is called Desertification. The capacity of the soil to hold water is also reduced as a result of deforestation. (f)As a result of the aforementioned developments, the next generation will grow up in a world plagued by natural disasters and with fewer resources available to meet the demands of an ever-increasing population.
