Question

Explain how deforestation leads to reduced rainfall.
Medium

Solution

Carbon dioxide is required for photosynthesis in plants. With fewer trees, less carbon dioxide is used up, resulting in an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide traps the heat rays reflected by the planet, resulting in global warming. The water cycle is disrupted by rising temperatures on the planet, and rainfall may be reduced as a result, droughts.
