Dr Sadao was a Japanese surgeon. An American prisoner of war was washed ashore in a dying state. He was thrown on the doorsteps of Dr Sadao. The doctor was full of patriotism but as a doctor, he had to save the life of a dying man first. Therefore, he operated on the prisoner of war and as a true Japanese, he informed the General. This is how he performed his duty as a patriotic Japanese.
