The General was absorbed in himself. He just cared about himself, and the country was his second priority. Dr. Sadao provided him with competent care, and he only had confidence in him. When Dr. Sadao went on to explain to him about the American at his home, instead of arresting him from betrayal against the country he offered to send his own assassins and get him dead. It was an unfulfilled promise that ended up saving the patient's life. As a result, he was a selfish individual who lacked empathy and loyalty for anybody or anything.
