Solution

There was no official opposition party in India during the first ten years of electoral politics. However, a number of active and interesting opposition parties had already been formed as non-Congress parties prior to the 1952 first general election. As a result, practically all non-Congress parties today may be linked to one of the opposition groups from the 1950s. Even though none of these opposition parties received more than a token representation, their existence was important to upholding the system's democratic nature. Therefore, a two-party system is necessary for a successful democracy for the reasons listed below:
1. In two-party systems, the opposition party consistently and firmly criticises the ruling party's policies and practises, keeping it in check.
2. By preserving the democratic political alternative, these parties avoided the systemic resentment from devolving into anti-democracy.
Based on the aforementioned characteristics, a two-party system is justified and offers the following benefits:
1. India's politics have become more competitive.
2. Political parties only engage in consensus-based activities.
3. New forms, visions, and development pathways have been found.
4. Political agendas are being expanded to include issues like social security, minimum wages, and poverty.
5. Different classes, castes, and regions are raising concerns about justice and democracy to remind states of their obligations.
