Question

When a gun is fired it exerts a forward force on the bullet and the bullet exerts an equal opposite backward force on the gun. Why? Explain the law which is applicable in this case.

Solution

When a bullet is fired from a gun, the gun exerts a force on the bullet in the forward direction and the bullet exerts the equal force in the backward direction. This force is called the action force. Newton’s third law is applicable on this situation that every action has equal and opposite reaction.
