Q11
Explain any three reasons for resistance to globalisation.
Solution
Any three arguments for globalisation opposition:
(i)Leftists claim that contemporary globalisation is a distinct phase of global capitalism that widens the gap between rich and poor people. The state is deteriorating, and its ability to provide assistance to the poor is dwindling. In India, there has been resistance to globalisation from a variety of sources. Protests against multinational entry have been organised by industrial workers' unions as well as those defending former interests.
(ii) On the economic front, they demand a return to self-reliance and protectionism, at least in some sectors of the economy, particularly export-import and investment. The majority of anti-globalisation movements reject a specific globalisation policy that they regard as a kind of imperialism. There were massive protests at the WTO summit in Seattle in 1999, alleging unfair trade practises by economically dominant states.
(iii) Critics are concerned that traditional culture, such as music, dress, and language, would be destroyed, and that people will lose their traditional values and customs. Cultural impact is opposed for a variety of reasons, including the availability of foreign goods.
