Solution
A number of towns in India have been created by the British and other Europeans. For the ease of trade and commerce, they first constructed some trading ports including as Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Surat, Daman, Goa, Puducherry, and others. They gradually developed administrative centres, hill towns, summer resorts, and other amenities. They built military cantonments, sometimes known as camp towns, as well as health resorts. After 1850, towns centred on new industries arose, such as Jamshedpur.Following independence, many towns were created as administrative headquarters, such as Chandigarh, Bhubaneshwar, Gandhinagar, Dispur, and industrial centres, such as Durgapur, Bhilai, Sindri, Barauni, and others. Some old towns, such as Ghaziabad, Rohtak, and Gurgaon in the Delhi area, have evolved as satellite towns. A big number of medium and small towns have sprung up across the country as a result of increased investment in rural areas.
